I believe that many people have the wrong idea about submission. The Lord did not give children to parents for them to be physically or verbally abused. Ephesians 6:1-4 "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother-which is the first commandment with a promise- that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth. Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord". The father should love his child as much as Christ loved us. Christ died on the cross for our sins and because of that we have the hope of spending eternity with the Lord. The Lord submitted to his father's will because of the Father's loving example shown to him. So, a father should be willing to lay down his life for his children or wife.

The sad thing is in today's society- father's are sometimes absent in the family, abusive to their children or self centered on what will be in their best interest. So, how can this be changed? I believe this can be changed by starting with the father's relationship with the Lord. So, if a father has a loving relationship with the Lord then he will want to treat his children and wife with love and respect. He will not use his power as a father to abuse or make his wife and children miserable.

I believe children a re rebellious of parents many times because inside the church building a father acts like the model Christian father-but when they return home and the doors are closed to outsiders the true colors of the father are shown. The father may be verbally abusive, physically abusive or even sexually abusive to his children. I pray that God will intervene in these situations and bring the father to repentance. Luke 17:1-3 " Jesus said to his disciples: Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. So watch yourselves. If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him". This scripture points out if you cause someone to sin then you will be accountable. So, if you are a father who is exasperating your children or wife with abuse or in some other way today is the day to stop sinning in this way, repent and from this day forward live a life that is pleasing to the Lord and shows love, kindness, and compassion to your children and wife. If you are a father following God's plan to love, compassion, and kindness to your wife and children-then why not start a movement to raise the standard for other fathers to step up and be a father as the Lord had planned.
