Job 1:21 (New International Version)

21 and said:

"Naked I came from my mother's womb,
and naked I will depart.
The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away;
may the name of the LORD be praised."

This mother's day will not be the first one I have no one to buy a card for or a present. So, how do I feel on Mother's Day? I rejoice in the fact that I know that my mother and grandmother are at home in the arms of the Lord. Someday, I will be re-united with them.

Sometimes when I am at the grocery store or local discount place-I see a mother and daughter shopping together. I stand there remembering the great times I had with my grandmother and mother. I want to go up to those strangers and tell them enjoy the precious time you have together-because no-one knows when the Lord will call one of you home or the Lord will return. Time is so limited here on earth-it seems like one day you are a child and the next you are turning 50. So, I want to share with you how important it is to enjoy the time you have left with your mother and if the Lord has called your mother home-then remember all the wonderful things your mother taught you. If you are a mother take this to make a remembrance book for your children-so that when the Lord calls you home-they will have something to remember you by. I wish my mother and grandmother would have done that-but the Lord took them home before they had a chance to make one. So, I spend most of my time on Mother's Day remembering the good times that we spent together and praising God for those times.

I realize now my mother knew she was going to die from the lymphoma cancer before I did. You see my mother was an ordained pastor and together we founded a ministry together. Several months before she died-she started cooking all my favorite foods. She really wasn't able to cook because she was so weak. I kept telling her that I would cook something-but she would insist and start cooking. I know in her heart-she knew the Lord was calling her home soon and so she wanted to leave me with wonderful memories of her cooking. The last Christmas the family was together-my niece who was young wanted to learn how to make a pie and wanted Mom to show her. Mom was so weak-but she spent that quality time with her grandchild teaching her how to make a pie. I hope my niece will remember that special Christmas. In fact, I think Mom insisted cooking Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner that year. That was what she loved to do! My mother was servant to others-she cooked and served free meals at our ministry until she started chemo-therapy and couldn't be around other people because of her resistance being down. The whole time she was in chemo-therapy and radiation treatment-she prayed for and reached out to others. I don't know if any of those people she served, prayed for or encouraged still remember her-but I know that the Lord remembers and she is now at peace and serving the Lord for eternity.

So, my last point is to remember always what your mother who was faithful to the Lord has taught you. In Memory of: Pastor Joyce Dreiman May 14-1934 to March 20-2008
